چکیده

Use of satellite images is known as a new technique to study changes in vegetation cover. On the other hand, rainfall plays a key role on the condition of vegetation cover. This article investigates the changes in vegetation and its relation to rainfall days and monthly time intervals over the (2000-2003) period. The region of study is part of Azerbaijan province located in an area surrounded. Using geo-statistical methods, rainfall maps were generated based on the rain gauges in the data collected by area. Maps of daily Normalized Difference Vegetation index (NDVI) were transformed days images using into day composite technique. By maximum preparing a layer representing terrain-mapping units (TMU), the correlation between vegetation cover and rainfall was investigated in different land units. The results demonstrate varying degree of correlation. Specifically, the correlation in alluvial and flood plains was strongest. Meanwhile, the correlation in monthly time days interval was better compares to interval. The multi-variable regression was also determined as the most suited correlation relationship.

Monitoring Meteorological Drought in Iran Using Remote Sensing and Drought Indices

Drought is a major environmental disaster in many parts of the world. Knowledge about the timing, severity and extentof drought can aid planning and decision-making. Drought indices derived from in-situ meteorological data have coarsespatial and temporal resolutions, thus, obtaining a real-time drought condition over a large area is difficult. This studyused advanced very high resolution radiom...

Cross Comparison of Spot-4 Vegetation and Noaa-14 Avhrr

Spectral vegetation indices obtained from satellite sensors have been used to measure and monitor the Earth’s vegetative cover from local, regional, to global scales. The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) has been the most widely-used index and shown to correlate with green leaf area index, green biomass, and net primary productivity. The NDVI from the two sensors, National Oceanic ...

An analysis of drought events for central plains of Iran through an employment of NOAA-AVHRR data

Drought is a major problematic phenomenon for the mostly semi-arid country of Iran. The north centralregions of Iran (north of Esfahan and Ghom province) have suffered from severe droughts several times duringthe last three decades. The frequent occurrence of drought in these regions is due to low and inconsistentprecipitation, abnormally high temperatures, increases in surface albedo and evapo...

Reduction of the Long-Term Inaccuracy from the AVHRR-Based NDVI Data

—This paper investigated the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) stability in the NOAA/NESDIS Global Vegetation Index (GVI) data during 1982-2003, which was collected from five NOAA series satellites. An empirical distribution function (EDF) was developed to eliminate the long-term inaccuracy of the NDVI data derived from the AVHRR sensor on NOAA polar orbiting satellite. The instabi...

بررسی امکان استفاده از شاخص پوشش گیاهی NDVIدر تحلیل خشکسالی‌های استان اصفهان

In order to define a surrogate index instead of climatic indices for analyzing and monitoring droughts, monthly rainfall data ( period of growth from March to September) of 36 stations spread over Esfahan and NOAA satellite images during the 1997- 2003 period were prepared and processed. The climatic index of SPI was computed from monthly rainfall and the Normalized Difference Vegetation Inde...
